FTR #37 Roots of the Cold War
Posted September 20, 1995 by FTR, in Category: For The Record
The key events that precipitated the Cold War were well under way during the closing stages of the Second World War. This program documents early attempts to sabotage the fledgling U.N. ‘s efforts at ensuring world peace. These attempts were undertaken, not by the Soviet Union, but by those powerful corporate interests that had provided pivotal assistance to Hitler and Mussolini. Articles by investigative reporter Drew Pearson reporting these sabotage attempts (filed from San Francisco in the spring of 1945) were actively suppressed by mainstream media. Not surprisingly, these media were owned by the same individuals and corporations that had supported fascism and that were attempting to foment the Cold War. The Pearson articles were reprinted by the late George Seldes and are read from his work. (See also: FTR #’s 29, 36, 38, 99, 102.) (Recorded in the late summer of 1995.)
